Yoshizawa's Crab

Description

In my quest for a base with 10 flaps, I came across the idea of blintzing the basic bases. A bintzed frog base is responsible for both the 3 and 5 headed crane (there, the secret's out. :iconohnoesplz:), but the maximum number of flaps I could eke out of that is 8, which means 5 heads, 2 wings and a tail. So I searched further. into the mysterious realm of double blintzing. I tried something along the line last time, but it sorta failed and I took the easy way out by dividing the paper into thirds. Now I'm searching for a more straightforward folding pattern. So ya. back to double blintzing. Which led me to this crab. It is a perfect example of double blintzing. This crab has 12 flaps (8 legs, two eyes and two claws) which is great, but I only need 10. I suppose I could make due, but I'm going to keep looking. On the upside, this is a great model and easy to memorize, and taught me how to use double blintzing.

The book this came out of, Akira Yosizawa's Creative Origami, is well worth getting (It might be under a differant name). If you can find it and can afford it, get it! There's a reason he's called the grandfather of modern origami.
